About the role

Western Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Occupational Therapist to join our innovative Western Health Mental Health at Home (WHMH at Home) service — a pioneering model of acute mental health care delivered in the community.

WHMH at Home is a 24/7 service providing the equivalent of ten acute mental health beds in the community. Underpinned by the Hospital in the Home (HITH) model, the service provides intensive, recovery-oriented treatment to adults experiencing acute mental health concerns who would otherwise require hospital admission.

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in delivering discipline-specific assessments and interventions that promote recovery, functional independence, and meaningful participation for consumers in their home environments. You will work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and the multidisciplinary team to support safe, person-centred, and recovery-focused care.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that is transforming the way acute mental health care is delivered across Melbourne’s west.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions, including functional capacity and sensory modulation assessments.
  • Deliver activity- and participation-focused treatment approaches that promote engagement in meaningful occupations and daily living skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, consumers, and carers to support recovery and wellbeing in the home environment.
  • Contribute to the supervision, education, and training of students, early-career clinicians, and team members.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives within the WHMH at Home program.

About you:

  • Qualified and registered Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in mental health, with demonstrated clinical expertise in occupational therapy assessment and intervention.
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage effectively with consumers, families, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Commitment to professional development, reflective practice, and service innovation.
