Year 10 Work Experience Program – Western Health

Applications are closed for 2025.

Applications for 2026 year 10 students will open in February 2026.

Western Health offers an opportunity for Year 10 students to gain valuable insight into the healthcare industry through our Year 10 Work Experience Program.

This five-day structured program is designed to give students an introduction to healthcare in a real-world setting. With a mix of administrative exposure and appropriate clinical observation, students will experience first-hand how a major health service operates and discover the wide range of career pathways available in the healthcare sector.

What You’ll Gain

  • Insight into the inner workings of a hospital and health service
  • Understanding of both clinical and non-clinical career options
  • Professional workplace experience
  • Exposure to real-world recruitment processes

By applying through our formal online application process, students will also experience how job seekers apply for roles at Western Health - providing a realistic and professional introduction to employment pathways in healthcare.

How to Apply

Applications are closed for 2025.

Applications for 2026 year 10 students will open in February 2026.

Students will need to complete an online application and submit supporting documents. As part of the process, you will be asked to:

  • Confirm your enrolment in Year 10 for 2026
  • Nominate your preferred Western Health location (e.g., Sunshine Hospital, Footscray Hospital, Williamstown Hospital, Sunbury Day Hospital, Bacchus Marsh Hospital or Melton Community Services)
  • Provide your available placement dates
  • Tell us why you're interested in healthcare
  • Disclose if any of your family members are employed at Western Health
  • Indicate if you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Upload your Résumé /CV

Why Upload a Résumé/CV?

Submitting a Résumé /CV helps us understand more about you, including your interests, extracurricular activities, and any relevant experience or skills you may already have. It also gives you a chance to practice an important job application skill - writing a Résumé/CV! For support in writing your first Résumé/CV please visit “How to make a resume for your first job: Template and tips” on Seek..

Important to Know

We receive an overwhelming number of applications each year, and while we would love to offer a placement to every student who applies, unfortunately we have limited capacity. Please know that each application is carefully considered, and we appreciate the time and effort you put into applying.

We also always try our best to match students to areas of interest. However, placements depend on availability and the support our teams can provide. If you're placed in a unit different to what you expected, we encourage you to keep an open mind - every area is vital to how a hospital functions, and you may discover a new interest or career pathway you hadn’t considered before.

Stay Tuned!

Keep an eye on this page in early 2026 for updates and application links.
