We are seeking enthusiastic junior medical staff with Obstetric & Gynaecology (O&G) experience to join the Western Health Women’s Health team commencing February 2025. Western Health provides women’s health services across our network including the tertiary level service at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s (JKWC) at Sunshine Hospital, and a lower acuity service at Bacchus Marsh Hospital.

 

JKWC is a purpose-built women’s and children’s facility that opened with state-of-the-art facilities in 2019. The service cares for over 6500 mothers annually and we have a comprehensive tertiary team comprising Maternal Fetal Medicine, obstetric medicine, obstetric anaesthesia and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Gynaecology services include general gynaecology as well as gynae-oncology, urogynaecology & minimally invasive surgery.

 

Bacchus Marsh Hospital joined the Western Health network in 2021. The lower risk maternity service is expected to grow to approximately 1000 births annually whilst the gynaecology service is expanding to support a large number of theatre sessions and extensive ambulatory services.

 

In 2025, we are offering Obstetric & Gynaecology Unaccredited Registrar positions, suited to those intending to undertake RANZCOG specialist training or career medical officer pathways in O&G.

 

All of our registrars participate in the various aspects of the structured teaching program that is an integral part of our accredited RANZCOG training status. Successful applicants who intend applying for vocational training will be supported by the unit in their application, conditional on meeting expectations with respect to service delivery and demonstrating relevant O&G skills.

 

About the Role

Unaccredited junior registrars can expect experience in any of the following areas:

  • Bacchus Marsh Hospital
  • Junior registrar for one of the four team-based general O&G units
  • Labour ward and acute receiving registrar
  • Night duty (on call with a Senior Registrar – Level 5/6)
  • Elective Caesarean Section lists
  • Emergency department (EDOG)
  • Early Pregnancy Service (EPAS)
  • Antenatal clinics
  • Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC)
  • Gynaecology outpatients
  • Gynaecology operating (minor gynaecological procedures, and/or co-rostered with RANZCOG trainee to gynaecology lists)

Additional opportunities may be available for participation in other specialist services such as pelvic floor disorders, gynae-oncology, infertility, maternal-fetal medicine, and endoscopic surgery.

 

To be successful in this role, you must meet the requirements below:

  • Primary Medical qualification (eg MBBS, MD) or equivalent as recognised by AHPRA
  • Current medical registration with no current AHPRA conditions on practice
  • Minimum 18 months experience in O&G at HMO, SHMO or Junior Registrar level
