About the role:

This is an opportunity for dynamic Addiction Psychiatrists and Addiction Medicine Specialists to join the Addiction Medicine team at Western Health.

 

The Specialist Addiction Services of Western Health offer innovative and diverse programs including Custodial Programs, Specialist Outpatient Programs, Dual Diagnosis Services, Residential Services, Youth & Family Services and Hospital Inpatient Addiction Medicine Services.

 

Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry consultants support patients and staff across these programs by providing expert clinical care and clinical direction. Consultants are supported to hold a range of leadership portfolios. Recruited consultants will join a team of eight consultants, eight registrars, three HMOs and six nurse practitioners as part of a large team with a strong specialist training program.

 

Consultants are being recruited to cover programs in inpatient, outpatient and custodial teams. (The custodial health role involves providing services at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Victoria’s female prison. Western Health provides primary care and some specialist services for this patient group marked by significant, trauma and marginalisation.)

 

About you:

  • You will have recognised qualifications as a Consultant Psychiatrist (FRANZCP, Advanced Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry preferred) or Addiction Medicine (FAChAM).
  • You will have well-developed professional communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to professional development of yourself and others. 
  • You can demonstrate a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and delivery of evidence-based best care is essential. You contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity and compassion, effective communication, and ethical clinical care.
  • You have experience in and enjoy teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff, Medical Students and the broader team.
  • You will be involved in service evaluation and audits and will be encouraged to be involved in research activities.
