About the role 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Grade 3 Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join the Specialised Rehabilitation Program (SRP).

Working under the direction and supervision of Allied Health professionals, the Grade 3 AHA will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care in partnership with patients, families, and carers. The role will involve progressing therapeutic interventions, undertaking comprehensive screening activities, triaging AHA referrals, and contributing to the development of structured patient education resources.

The Grade 3 AHA will also provide leadership and support to the broader AHA workforce, including assisting with the orientation, supervision, and development of Grade 1 and Grade 2 AHA’s and students. Responsibilities include monitoring competencies, supporting workload management, and coordinating AHA team meetings.

A key component of the role will be working in partnership with the Aquatic Physiotherapist to support the ongoing development and sustainability of the hydrotherapy service. This includes assisting with hydrotherapy program delivery, monitoring hydrotherapy plant room requirements, participating in pool rescue training for Physiotherapists and AHAs, and supporting the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures that ensure the safe and effective operation of the service.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced AHA to contribute to service innovation, workforce development, and the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation services within a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

 

Key responsibilities

The Grade 3 AHA will provide leadership to a small team of AHAs within SRP, ensuring the delivery of high-quality supervision, guidance, support, and oversight. As a member of the Specialised Rehabilitation Program Senior Leadership Team, the role will contribute to the ongoing professional development of the AHA workforce and the advancement of service delivery initiatives.

The Grade 3 AHA will maintain a clinical caseload, working with referred patients and their families within their scope of practice, while also undertaking a range of operational and service-related responsibilities as required.

In addition, the role is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and support to AHA’s across the program, as well as completing other duties as directed by the SRP Manager. They may be required to work across any Western Health site in accordance with organisational priorities, service requirements, and operational needs.

 

About you

  • Allied Health Assistant Certificate IV or other appropriate qualification, as specified within the employment agreement
  • Minimum of three years of experience (full time equivalent) as a Grade 2 AHA
  • Experience in orienting and supervising Grade 1 or 2 AHAs and students
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work within scope of practice guidelines but also able to demonstrate initiative
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Confidence in a water-based environment (Hydrotherapy pool)
  • Victorian Driver’s Licence
