St Albans CCU is seeking a committed and collaborative Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our multidisciplinary team and play a key role in supporting recovery-focused, high-quality mental health care.
As an ANUM, you will provide expert clinical leadership, coordinate the day-to-day operations of the unit, and work closely with the Program Manager and Team Leader to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for consumers, carers, and staff. This role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership responsibility, making it ideal for someone who leads with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to Western Health’s values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide shift-by-shift leadership, coordination, and allocation of nursing and unit resources.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Act as Key Clinician (case manager) for allocated consumers, supporting recovery-oriented treatment and rehabilitation.
- Promote and uphold Western Health values through professional, culturally safe, and collaborative practice.
- Support quality improvement, service development, portfolio responsibilities, and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure clinical documentation, reviews, and care planning meet legislative and organisational standards (including MHWA 2022).
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff, contributing to a positive, learning-focused team culture.
- Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Program Manager/Team Leader.
Essential requirements for the role:
- Registered with AHPRA as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse
- Minimum 3 years postgraduate psychiatric nursing experience.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical practice, including high level assessment, risk formulation and evidence based intervention.
- Proven leadership capability, including the ability to lead shift operations, support staff, guide clinical decision making and contribute to positive team culture.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, as well as other legislation relevant to public mental health.
About You:
- Demonstrate strong clinical capabilities with confidence in autonomous decision- making.
- Exercises sound clinical judgement in high risk, complex and ambiguous situations, escalating appropriately.
- Upholds and drive adherence to best practice standards, the MHWA2022, and recovery orientated practice.
- Supports the integration of physical health and holistic assessment into everyday practice.
- Actively develops a culture of clinical excellence, ensuring safe, effective and person centred care.
- Leads and support with clinical review discussions, contributes for formulation and guides treatment planning.
- Demonstrates advance communication skills to collaborate with consumers, carers, internal clinicians and external service providers.
