Associate Nurse Unit Manager

About the role:
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) demonstrates expert knowledge and skills while assuming a prominent management focus of the service. The ANUM is an integral member of the clinical management team, assisting the Nurse Unit Manager in the course of their duties to ensure provision of nursing care that is excellent in quality and consistently patient-centred while achieving effective operational management of the clinical environment.
The ANUM assists in managing the nursing and related resources available to the service, acts as a role model in setting the clinical standards and achieving high quality evidence-based nursing care, fosters the development of cooperative professional relationships with the multidisciplinary health care team, and facilitates a working environment which provides professional development and job satisfaction for all employees.
About you:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing qualification or equivalent
- Registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia
- Possess a relevant Post Graduate qualification or relevant clinical experience
- Demonstrate skills in the relevant nursing/midwifery specialty
- Demonstrate effective management skills appropriate to the Associate Nurse Unit Manager role
- Demonstrate effective communication skills both written and verbal
About the department:
Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a correctional facility for women located in Ravenhall in Melbourne’s west. DPFC is operated by Corrections Victoria and provides maximum, medium and minimum-security accommodation for female prisoners which includes women on remand and those currently serving sentences. At present, the prison can accommodate 572 women, this includes a 20-bed specialist mental health inpatient facility operated by Forensicare.
On the 1st of July 2023, Western Health became responsible for the provision of primary healthcare to women throughout their prison stay at DPFC, this will include but is not limited to:
- Primary Care e.g. General Practitioner, women's health, minor procedures
- Primary mental healthcare
- Population health
- Dental services
- Advanced care planning
- Medication management
- Diagnostic services – radiology and pathology
- Allied health services
- Medical aids and equipment
- Access to specialist services in the community
- Tailored health responses for priority groups
The quality and standard of health care provided to women undergoing a custodial sentence must be to the same standard as that provided in the community through the public health system. Western Health will work with external service providers to ensure this is upheld for the women of DPFC
