Western Health is seeking experienced, motivated, and dynamic Critical Care Nurses to join our Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) - ICU Liaison Nurse Consultants. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an advanced practice nursing role within a multidisciplinary environment, delivering high-level clinical expertise and leadership across Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals.

 

As a key member of the Critical Care Outreach Team, the ICU Liaison Nurse Consultant provides a proactive and expert response to clinical deterioration across the hospital. In this advanced practice role, you will utilise your strong leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills to support ward staff, enhance patient safety, and promote best practices in the recognition and response to deterioration.

 

Key responsibilities:

The ICU Liasion Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) at Western Health  plays a crucial role in:

  • Leading and responding to Adult Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue calls
  • Identifying and supporting at-risk patients through proactive rounding
  • Facilitating safe ICU discharges and bridging care for patients awaiting ICU admission
  • Delivering education and clinical support to multidisciplinary teams
  • Enhancing escalation pathways in collaboration with medical, access, and allied health teams

 

This role requires rostered shifts across both Footscray and Sunshine Hospital, including coverage of the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s facility.

 

About you:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care)
  • Completion of, or working towards, a Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Accredited (current) Adult Advanced Life Support certification
  • Proven experience in a senior clinical role (CNS or higher), preferably in ICU or a critical care setting
  • Advanced knowledge in the recognition, assessment, and management of the deteriorating patient
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and support staff in high-pressure environments
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
