About the role
Western Health is one of the fastest growing health services in Australia. It services the rapidly expanding and incredibly diverse inner and outer Western suburbs of Melbourne. The Drug and Alcohol team within the Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Hub at Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department is seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse Consultant to join our service and drive the delivery of superior clinical care to these populations. The AOD Clinical Nurse Consultant supports patients presenting to Sunshine ED with substance use disorders. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the provision of short-term care to low acuity Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug conditions across SH ED and MHAOD Hub
  • Appropriately identifying patients presenting with substance use disorders
  • AOD patient presentation management; screening, assessment, identification, planning and treatment
  • Linking patients with appropriate community and/or hospital based addiction treatment services, including the MHAOD Outreach Team within the Hub
  • Operate within the Drug Health Services Addiction Medicine Consultation & Liaison program
     

About you:

  • You will have a passion for providing safe and modern care to drug and alcohol clients
  • It is expected that you hold previous acute experience
  • Complex AOD, medical and mental health experience
  • Sound knowledge and understanding screening, assessment and community based treatment options for patients presenting with AOD, mental health and medical complexity
