About the role:
The Clinical Support Nurse (CSN) will work collaboratively with the Education and Learning team to provide clinical support, supervision, mentorship, and education to nursing staff across Western Health. This role is integral in fostering a culture of lifelong learning and clinical excellence, particularly for graduate nurses and undergraduate students in acute settings. The CSN will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of Best Care by guiding and developing the clinical capabilities of nursing staff while supporting the safe transition of novice nurses into professional practice.

 

As a member of the Education team, the CSN will maintain a strong and visible presence in the clinical environment, working closely with Nurse Unit Managers and other educators to promote evidence-based care and staff development.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and clinical support to nurses, particularly graduate and undergraduate nurses.
  • Facilitate clinical learning through direct instruction, feedback, and supervision in real-time settings.
  • Monitor performance and support the development of staff through coaching and reflective practice.
  • Collaborate with the broader education team to support study days, clinical assessments, and program delivery.
  • Promote and role model evidence-based practice and adherence to Western Health policies and procedures.
  • Assist with identifying and managing underperformance concerns in collaboration with educators and NUMs.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement, research projects, and safety initiatives across clinical areas.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 3 years' post-registration experience in an acute clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support clinical staff, particularly graduates and students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience as a clinical preceptor or in delivering bedside support.
  • Proficiency in using and troubleshooting clinical ICT systems.
