About the role 

The role of the Director of Paediatric Emergency Medicine is to provide clinical, professional, and academic leadership in the discipline of Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Western Health. The Director has the responsibility for the effective management and leadership of the department and the provision of services consistent with Western Health Strategic Priorities.  

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Oversee consultant and junior medical staff to ensure that high quality clinical care is provided to paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department 

  • Oversee the management of the units’ financial budgets, medical staffing requirements and Key Performance Indicators to deliver organisational and divisional operational priorities. 

  • Ensure a high quality of care is provided to all patients and a robust system is in place to monitor and improve care delivered and its outcomes. 

  • Lead and develop the medical workforce to ensure a work climate that is conducive to positive morale, employee growth and retention.  

  • Ensure a strong and robust education, training and research program within the department.  
     

About you: 

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency 

  • Specialist qualification as a Paediatric Emergency Physician (FRACP and / or FACEM) 

  • Well-developed communication skills in interactions with relevant clinical, administrative and executive staff, patients and carers  

  • Excellent understanding of the patient journey, access issues and constraints to patient flow  

  • Ability to inspire and lead service change
