About the role
Western Health is seeking a dedicated and strategic Director of Nursing and Midwifery to provide professional leadership and operational excellence across Sunbury Community Hospital, Infection Prevention & Control nursing service, and the Western Health at Home and Integrated Community Health Services Divisions.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for advancing practice, monitoring clinical standards, embedding quality and safety, and leading a person-centred care culture. You will play a key role in workforce planning, credentialing, clinical governance, and the implementation of evidence-based practice, ensuring nursing and midwifery care is safe, contemporary, and responsive to the needs of our community.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide senior professional leadership, guidance, and support for nursing and midwifery staff.
- Drive the implementation of best practice and clinical excellence across community and in-home care settings.
- Lead the Infection Prevention and Control portfolio with accountability for achievement of National Standard 3 priorities across Western Health.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, skill mix, and credentialing of the nursing workforce in the portfolio.
- Lead cultural change initiatives focused on person-centred care and integrated service delivery.
- Partner with divisional leaders to align nursing priorities with divisional and organisational goals.
- Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, service development, and workforce capability initiatives.
- Represent the Nursing & Midwifery Directorate within executive and operational forums.
- This role also holds designated senior site leadership responsibilities at Sunbury Community Hospital, with an overarching remit to support and guide professional nursing and midwifery practice across the broader division.
About you:
- You are a highly experienced and credentialed nurse or midwife with proven leadership in clinical operations, professional governance, and change management.
- You demonstrate strong strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and a collaborative approach to improving patient outcomes and workforce capability.
- You have led and developed high performing teams
- You have a high level of demonstrable experience and knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and professional issues and the National Accreditation Standards
- You bring advanced understanding of community and hospital-based care models and are passionate about delivering accessible, equitable, and safe care.
You will also demonstrate:
- Proficiency across the five domains of the Western Health Nursing & Midwifery Professional Practice Framework: leadership, research, evidence-based practice, education, and clinical expertise
- Strong knowledge of contemporary nursing and midwifery standards, credentialing, and regulatory requirements
- The ability to lead clinical and cultural transformation across diverse service settings
- Experience in working at an executive or senior leadership level within healthcare
