About the role:

As a Health Information Manager (HIM) within our Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (MHWS), you will play a foundational role in bridging the gap between clinical excellence and data integrity. This is a unique opportunity to join Western Health during a period of significant transformation as we implement recommendations from the Royal Commission and navigate the transition to Activity Based Funding (ABF).

 

In this role, you aren’t just managing records; you are ensuring that the story of a patient’s care is captured accurately, ethically, and in full compliance with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022. You will act as a critical partner to our multidisciplinary clinical teams, providing the data-driven insights and governance needed to deliver "Best Care" across our community, inpatient, and specialist settings.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Data Integrity & Statutory Reporting: Ensure clinical data is accurate and compliant with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 for all mandatory State and Commonwealth reporting.
  • System Administration: Oversee the data quality and operational workflows of key digital systems, including CMI/ODS, BOSSnet, and Cerner.
  • Funding & ABF Support: Support the transition to Activity Based Funding (ABF) by monitoring service activity and identifying opportunities to optimise funding through better data.
  • Clinical Coding & Documentation: Perform clinical classification (ICD-10-AM) and lead initiatives to improve the standard of clinical documentation across the service.
  • Privacy & Governance: Manage the secure collection, use, and disclosure of sensitive health information in line with Victorian privacy and FOI legislation.

 

About you: 

To be successful in this role, you will be a detail-oriented professional with a strong foundation of health information management and a commitment to supporting mental health reform.

 

You will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent) and eligibility for membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Understanding and experience of managing health datasets and information systems, specifically within a mental health context (e.g., CMI/ODS, Cerner, or BOSSnet).
  • Understanding of Victorian mental health reporting requirements (VAED), Activity Based Funding (ABF) models, clinical coding (ICD-10-AM),.
  • A solid working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and Victorian privacy and health records legislation.
  • Collaborative communication and the ability to translate complex data requirements into clear advice for diverse stakeholders, from clinicians to executive leadership.
