Graduate Occupational Therapy Role

Mental Health and Wellbeing Division 

Full Time EFT: Monday - Friday

 

The Grade one OT role is part of the OT and Social Work mental health graduate program. This program is facilitated by clinical educators and includes orientation and foundational mental health training, supervision, monthly professional development and peer support days and individualised support to develop a plan for working towards mental health competencies.

 

The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU 5) is a 26 bed facility providing rehabilitation to consumers with complex mental health care needs. This service is located at Sunshine Hospital and is part of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. The graduate OT works closely with and is supported by the Grade 2 Occupational Therapist. This position involves group facilitation, occupational assessment and interventions, case management and discharge planning. There is a large multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, lived experience and allied health staff that provide a supportive learning environment.

 

To be Successful in this Role you

  • Will have an approved degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with AHPRA
  • Will have entry level knowledge of occupational assessment, intervention planning and groupwork
  • Will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging consumers, carers and other people supporting the consumers.
  • Will be willing to learn about sensory modulation, occupational formulation, action over inertia and other OT evidence based approaches in mental health
  • Will be enthusiastic about engaging in learning opportunities available within the clinical setting and the formal professional development sessions
  • Have the ability to adapt and be flexible to meet the changing needs of consumers and the changing demands of the service system.
