We are looking for Paediatric Endocrinologists and/or General Paediatricians with recent experience in diabetes to join our outpatient team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our new Paediatric Diabetes service at Western Health.

You will work in our supportive  multidisciplinary paediatric diabetes clinic, as well as provide clinical advice and consultation to the General Paediatricians on the inpatient ward caring for diabetic patients.

 

You will provide clinical support and supervision to other professional staff and students within the clinics and will also work alongside adult endocrinologist colleagues within the multidisciplinary Young Adult Diabetes Service (YADS).

Both these services currently run on Thursday afternoons, with the YADS service commencing in the late afternoon monthly. As our service grows, there may be an expectation for outreach clinics at other Western Health sites and affiliated services.

 

General Paediatricians will work alongside the Paediatric Endocrinologists to provide comprehensive, safe care in a rapidly evolving field of medicine. Experience in diabetes care is essential. An interest in Adolescent Health would also be highly regarded. There are ample opportunities for peer review and discussion.

 

For an Endocrinologist, the clinical appointment includes participation in the on-call consultative service for the Paediatric inpatient unit, NICU, and Paediatric Emergency Department for Paediatric Endocrinology.

Total of 0.2 FTE is available, which includes some non-clinical time.

 

You will have well-developed professional communication and interpersonal skills. There is opportunity to be involved in service development planning, and growing the service to meet the needs of the children of the region.

A demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and delivery of evidence-based best care is essential. An interest in research and audit is highly desirable.

 

To be Successful in this Role, you will:

  • Have either:
    • Recognised qualifications as a Paediatric Endocrinologist (FRACP), and it is expected that you are a member of the Australasian Paediatric Endocrinology Group (APEG); or
    • Recognised qualifications as a General Paediatrician (FRACP) and recent experience in paediatric diabetes care. 
  • Contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity and compassion, effective communication, and ethical clinical care.
  • Actively participate in teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff, General Paediatricians, Neonatologists, Medical Students, Allied Health, and Nursing staff.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely documentation of patient care in progress notes and correspondence.
  • Be involved in service evaluation and audits and will be encouraged to be involved in research activities.
