About the role:

We are looking for a Paediatric Endocrinologist to join our diabetes team to cover parental leave. This is an exciting opportunity to join and help grow our newly established Paediatric Diabetes service at Western Health. You will work alongside other Paediatric Endocrinologists and Diabetes Nurse Educators in the multidisciplinary paediatric diabetes clinic, as well as provide clinical advice and consultation to the General Paediatricians on the inpatient ward caring for diabetic patients.

 

You will provide clinical support and supervision to other professional staff and students within the clinics and will also work alongside adult endocrinologist colleagues within the multidisciplinary Young Adult Diabetes Service (YADS). Both these services run on Thursday afternoons, with the YADS service commencing in the late afternoon monthly. General Paediatricians will work alongside the Paediatric Endocrinologists to provide comprehensive, safe care in a rapidly evolving field of medicine. An interest in Adolescent Health would be highly regarded. 

 

There are ample opportunities for peer review and discussion. The clinical appointment includes participation in the on-call consultative service for the Paediatric inpatient unit, NICU, and Paediatric Emergency Department for Paediatric Endocrinology. 

 

This role is 0.1 FTE (1 clinic per week). Start date is negotiable (from 6th October 2025) and the role is for up to 12 months (end date 30 September 2026).

 

There is opportunity to be involved in service development planning, and growing the service to meet the needs of the children of the region.  

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Participation in weekly diabetes outpatient clinics, contributing to evidence-based best practice care for children with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
  • Participation in a consultative on-call service for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes; approximately 1:4

 

About you: 

  • Recognised qualifications as a Paediatric Endocrinologist (FRACP), and it is expected that you are a member of the Australasian Paediatric Endocrinology Group (APEG)
  • You will have well-developed professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and delivery of evidence-based best care is essential
  • An interest in research and audit is highly desirable
