About the role 

The Plastic and Reconstructive Unit at Western Health is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon to join the team. The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon will be responsible for providing high‑quality clinical care to patients across Western Health, supervising and training Junior Medical Staff, and contributing to the organisation’s strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities: 

• Provide high-quality, safe, and evidence-based Plastics care in accordance with Western Health policies, procedures, and clinical governance frameworks.
• Assume responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients, ensuring clinical care is delivered in accordance with accepted professional standards and best practice.
• Analyse and utilise clinical data, audit findings, and outcome measures to inform decision-making, monitor performance, and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Identify, escalate, and contribute to the resolution of clinical and operational issues affecting patient care, ensuring relevant matters are communicated to the Head of Unit/Department as appropriate.
• Ensure delegated clinical responsibilities are appropriate to the experience and competence of Junior Medical Staff, providing oversight and accountability for the care delivered.
• Provide consistent leadership, supervision, mentoring, and education to Junior Medical Staff to support their professional development and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
• Contribute to teaching, training, and workforce development activities within the Plastic & Reconstructive Unit and broader Western Health Services.

About you: 

• Medical qualification.
• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), with specialist qualification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
• Relevant clinical experience and demonstrated clinical competence appropriate to the level of the position.
• Demonstrated experience in the supervision, support and education of Junior Medical Staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Well-developed organisational skills, including effective time management, prioritisation and delegation.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated high standards of professional ethics and integrity in interactions with patients, colleagues and the organisation.
• Demonstrated maturity and effectiveness in problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.
