About the role
Join our friendly, multi-disciplinary collaborative team and reignite your passion for midwifery at Western Health. We are seeking passionate Midwives to join our dynamic Maternity Services team, known for its strong midwifery culture and supportive environment.
We are now able to offer employment working in low-risk, all-risk or Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander (Galinjera) teams with the option of providing homebirth services.
Western Health is offering sponsorship to internationally qualified Midwives who are looking to move to Melbourne, Australia.

Bacchus Marsh Hospital
A community-focused hospital dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based maternity care. Bacchus Marsh Hospital, part of Western Health, serves a diverse population in Melbourne’s western suburbs, combining compassionate care with advanced medical practices.
Bacchus Marsh offers opportunities in Antenatal Clinic, Childbirth Education, Maternity Assessment Centre, Birthing Suite, Postnatal Ward, Special Care Nursery, Lactation Services, and Midwifery in the Home.
Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital
A state-of-the-art, tertiary-level maternity facility featuring 26 spacious birthing rooms—four with luxurious birthing pools. Joan Kirner offers opportunities in
- Antenatal Clinic
- Maternity Assessment Centre
- Birthing Suite & HCU
- Postnatal Wards
- Domiciliary team
The site also offers Victoria’s largest Midwifery Group Practice (MGP), delivering continuity of care to approximately 14% of families.
Midwifery Pool (Multiple Campuses)
Join our Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Unit (NMWU) Pool and work flexibly across both Joan Kirner and Bacchus Marsh campuses. Our Pool services are designed to fill daily vacancies that arise across Western Health’s Maternity Services.
Pool work offers contracted hours, shift variety, cross-campus exposure, and helps build diverse clinical skills while reducing burnout and enhancing satisfaction.
Flexible working arrangements will also be considered on an individual basis.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver safe, high-quality, woman-centered maternity care in line with Western Health standards.
- Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams across various maternity care areas.
- Promote evidence-based midwifery practices and professional excellence.
- Support patient education, informed decision-making, and cultural safety.
- Engage in continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the maternity setting.
About you:
- Current Certification: AHPRA certification as a Registered Midwife.
- Experience: Minimum 12 months experience as a Registered Midwife in an Australian hospital setting (excluding placements).
- Passionate Advocates: Dedicated to woman-centered care, advocacy, and education.
- Clinical Excellence: Possess excellent clinical skills with evidence-based judgment.
- Collaborative Spirit: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to Development: Desire and experience in undertaking professional development activities to enhance nursing/midwifery expertise.
