Introduction to ICU (formally ICU Discovery Program)

About the role
Western Health ICU are seeking Registered Nurses with outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills who are interested in experiencing what Intensive Care has to offer.
The Introduction to ICU program is a 12-month program, including 2 orientation days and 4 structured study days. The position is a part time position at 72 hours per fortnight.
You will be exposed to a wide variety of high dependency patients as well as intensive care concepts, while you develop your clinical skills and begin to understand some of the theory behind all ICU has to offer.
Successful completion of this program offers an opportunity to apply for post-graduate studies in speciality area of practice. All applicants are expected to show a keen interest in their ongoing professional development and have a solid foundation in basic nursing care.
- Acute surgical/medical nursing experience
- 4 study days
- 2 weeks supernumerary
- Support of the unit based educators and clinical support nurse
Key responsibilities:
- Participate in education on a shift to shift basis as well as formal educational days
- Self-directed completion of workbook including clinical activities signed off
- Participate in online modules, short quizzes and an oral presentation
- Shift work, including 12 hour shifts and up to 50% nights
- Provide exceptional care to patients and their families
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions involving patient care
- Work within your scope of practise
- Ensure safe and high quality patient care is delivered in line with Western Health values and policies.
About you:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing qualification or equivalent
- Current acute nursing experience
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse within Australia
- Possess excellent clinical and organisational skills
- Have basic computer skills
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
