Senior Occupational Health & Safety Business Partner

About the role:
The Senior OHS Business Partner plays a critical role in protecting and enhancing the health, safety and wellbeing of Western Health’s people, patients and community. Reporting to the OHS Operations Manager, this role partners closely with leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety systems, improve safety culture, and reduce workplace risk across a complex healthcare environment.
This position offers significant opportunity for impact and growth, enabling the incumbent to influence organisational practice, mentor junior advisors, contribute to major projects (including new hospital developments), and embed continuous improvement aligned with Western Health’s vision of “Together, Caring for the West – Patients, Employees, Community and Environment.”
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and support the implementation and continuous improvement of Western Health’s Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Violence and Aggression, and Emergency Management systems.
- Provide expert, practical OHS advice to managers and staff through risk assessments, incident investigations, and development of risk mitigation strategies.
- Analyse safety data and incident trends to inform proactive prevention strategies and system improvements.
- Develop and deliver OHS education and training programs to build organisational safety capability and literacy.
- Mentor and support junior OHS advisors while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external regulators such as WorkSafe Victoria.
About you:
- Recognised OHS qualification (minimum Certificate IV in OHS or equivalent) with substantial experience as a safety professional in complex environments.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across diverse clinical and non‑clinical settings.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare high‑quality reports, policies and training materials.
- Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving capability to identify risks, interpret data, and recommend practical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise, multitask and manage competing demands in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
