About the role:

Join the Melton Local Mental Health and Wellbeing Service as a Grade 3 Occupational Therapist and play a key role in Victoria's mental health system reform following the Royal Commission. This full-time position offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred therapeutic care within an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework.

 

The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals”, are a key recommendation from Victoria’s Royal Commission into the mental health service system. As such, the Locals are a key feature of the current system transformation.

 

The Locals will provide a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.

 

Mind Australia is the lead agency in a consortium which comprises of IPC Health, Western Health and Thorne Harbour Health, who will deliver the Melton Local. Our shared vision is a Melton Local that delivers integrated care and support that puts the person accessing the service at the very centre of their treatment, support and care coordination using a range of evidence informed approaches. The consortium is committed to embedding lived and living experience within all aspects of the service including program design and evaluation, leadership, service delivery and governance.

 

Key responsibilities:

You will provide advanced assessment, intervention, care planning and therapeutic support to adults and older adults with diverse and complex mental health needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with consumers, families, carers and external services to coordinate care, support recovery and promote access to appropriate mental health supports.

 

Based in Melton, you will contribute to a recovery-oriented, evidence-informed service that embeds lived and living experience across service delivery, leadership and evaluation. This role suits an experienced Occupational Therapist with strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and a sound understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, who is passionate about integrated, community-based mental health care.

 

About you:

  • Provide comprehensive and flexible therapeutic support services to people including an advanced level of assessment, intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, education and research in accordance with professional, ethical and National Standards utilising clinical experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary interprofessional team and other relevant stakeholders to promote and facilitate access to primary mental health care services including the provision of support to assist staff to recognise and respond to mental health conditions and provide effective clinical management.
  • High level awareness of legislation governing mental health practice especially the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • Ability to clearly document clinical decisions in a number of online platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating care by communicating and advocating for the consumer and their family/carers with programs and external service providers.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
