Western Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Pharmacist – General Medicine to provide clinical and professional leadership across General Medicine services at our Western Health sites.

 

This is an opportunity to step into a senior role where your clinical expertise, leadership and passion for improvement will help shape the delivery of contemporary pharmacy services and improve medication-related outcomes for patients with complex and diverse healthcare needs.

 

As the Senior Pharmacist – General Medicine, you will lead the delivery and ongoing development of high-quality, evidence-based medication management across General Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to influence clinical practice, lead service development and governance initiatives, mentor pharmacists, and contribute to education and research within one of Victoria's fastest-growing health services. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

Working closely with medical, nursing and allied health teams, you will

  • Provide advanced clinical pharmacy expertise to support complex clinical decision-making and optimise medication use.
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services across General Medicine.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and lead quality improvement initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in patient outcomes.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and professional guidance to pharmacists, supporting the development of a highly skilled and confident clinical pharmacy workforce.
  • Contribute to education, research and service evaluation activities.
  • Represent Pharmacy on relevant multidisciplinary committees, working groups and clinical governance forums.

 

About you:  

This role provides the opportunity to make an impact at both the patient and service level – combining advanced clinical practice with leadership, education and service improvement.  You will work alongside an experienced and collaborative Pharmacy leadership team and multidisciplinary colleagues who are committed to delivering safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care.

 

We are looking for an experienced pharmacist who brings:

  • At least five years' hospital clinical pharmacy experience across diverse clinical settings. 
  • Demonstrated clinical pharmacy experience in General Medicine or a related clinical area.
  • Strong understanding of medication safety, clinical governance and quality improvement. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice, education and professional development.
  • Experience managing or supervising hospital pharmacy staff (desirable).
