About the role

Join a dynamic public health team as the Population Health Promotion Senior Lead, leading a team of Population Health Promotion Officers to use collective impact and a systems approach to design, implement and evaluate population health promotion initiatives across healthier eating and food systems, vaping and tobacco, and climate change and health areas.

 

This parental leave cover role will work proactively and collaboratively in partnership with local government and community health organisations to deliver place-based initiatives using collective impact approaches, including delivering on external and internal reporting.

 

About the Western Public Health Unit

The Western Public Health Unit (WPHU) is one of three metropolitan Local Public Health Units (LPHUs), and alongside six regional LPHUs forms a collaborative Network to deliver frontline public health for Victoria. The LPHU Network works closely with the Victorian Department of Health to provide for local and regional responses to communicable and non-communicable diseases through community partnerships and local public health initiatives. Led and coordinated by Western Health, WPHU serves over 1.3 million people across the local government areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Melton, Merri-bek, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.

 

WPHU investigates and manages cases and outbreaks of notifiable conditions under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 in collaboration with the Department’s Community and Public Health Division, manages public health risks and supports public health emergency responses. WPHU collaborates with local governments, community health networks, and primary care providers to improve health outcomes across its catchment, working to keep people well by leading and supporting practical population health action.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and evaluation of the WPHU Catchment Plan within its three priority areas, and in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight, feedback, support and growth opportunities for direct reports, including support to manage partnerships, planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting activities.
  • Proactively support the development and execution of communications, engagements and events with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the analysis and reporting of performance outcomes to funders and key stakeholders, including the delivery of a Population Health Annual Report.
  • To lead and be a part of collaborative decision-making, contributing to overall WPHU operations, building positive team culture and delivering on high-quality outcomes within the Population Health team, in collaboration with the Senior Manager for Population Health and other Population Health Promotion Senior Leads.

 

About you:

  • You are an experienced, proactive and adaptive public health professional with a growth-mindset, having delivered and evaluated population health initiatives at a local, regional or national level, particularly with experience in Victoria and Australia.
  • You have demonstrated experience supervising or managing staff to deliver high quality work, supporting their professional and personal growth through feedback, and managing workloads and competing deadlines.
  • You bring an emotionally intelligent approach to building and maintaining partnerships and teams to drive shared population health outcomes.
  • You have a solid understanding of contemporary health promotion practice and are able to apply systems thinking, collective impact, and settings and place-based approaches in real-world contexts.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations and facilitation, with strong attention to detail and evidence.
  • You effectively manage a complex workload with competing pressures.
