About the role:

The Sleep Laboratory at our Footscray campus is currently seeking 1 enthusiastic and professional Sleep Scientist (Grade 1) to join our team and form part of our exciting new journey at the New Footscray Hospital.

 

This part-time position operates on 10-hour shifts on a rotating roster (day/evening/night shifts).

Shift times are: Day shifts (8am to 6:30pm), Setup shift (12pm to 10:30pm), Night shift (9:30am to 7:30am).

 

The Sleep Disorders Unit at Footscray Hospital is NATA Accredited and performs a variety of in-laboratory and home-based PSG and treatment studies. The Unit performs approximately 2,000 sleep studies per annum, including diagnostic PSG, treatment studies (CPAP/Bi-Pap/Oxygen) and split studies, with TCO2 monitoring and blood gas sampling if required. The unit also provides support to patients with CPAP clinics, APAP trials and light therapy devices.

 

Western Health is continually growing due to being in the growth corridor of Melbourne. Plans are under way with a new Footscray Hospital being completed for 2025, where our unit is increasing in size. This means there is a high opportunity to grow professionally within the Sleep Disorders Unit, including supporting applications for the RPSGT exam, ACCP registrations, participation in departmental research and attendance to quarterly educational meetings and scientific conferences.

 

Key responsibilities:

The position will involve key tasks such as:

  • All aspects of sleep study patient preparation and recording
  • All aspects of sleep study analysis
  • Portfolio management 
  • Attend regular in-service educational meetings and maintain all mandatory training requirements

 

Whilst this position maintains a strong clinical focus, the Grade 1 Scientist will also support quality system activities in line with NATA/ASA Accreditation Standards and be involved in specific set of delegated portfolios.

 

About you:

The successful applicant will have a science degree with related majors, have excellent communication skills, work collaboratively, and demonstrate initiative and confidence when working in a clinical setting.

 

The Grade 1 Sleep Scientist will be expected to demonstrate an analytical approach to troubleshooting and be highly organised.
